Private Equity-Backed Roll-Up Restructure and Turnaround

Dynamic Details (DDI) was a new private equity (PE) backed roll-up acquiring diverse engineering, printed circuit board fabrication and manufacturing facilities throughout the country.

Problem

Each of the diverse companies and organizations acquired had a unique structure and no coordinated synergies. A Dallas-based, acquired fabrication facility was struggling with limited production ($2MM monthly output) and with loading enough jobs.

Solution

We were contracted to provide a fractional business director to manage the Dallas facility and the Southeast US Business Unit. We developed quality processes for all operational functions. We directed new job flow through the Dallas facility from the Southeast business Unit. We integrated a newly acquired, Austin-based design engineering services division into the current national workflow for processing engineering packages more rapidly.

We also restructured the overstaffed and overlapping hybrid (some direct/some indirect) sales organization. We guided the installation of a regionalized field organization, with appropriate support personnel, involving sales managers in charge of regions.

Results

The new budget for the Southeast business unit called for an increase in revenue to $85MM from prior year actual of $65MM. We managed the business unit to surpass $104MM. The Dallas facility also increased from $2MM monthly production to $5MM monthly production.
